Olympic Games – Paris 2024

The Olympics is a wonderful event to help tamariki learn so many valuable things and learning about what is happening in the world is beneficial for them.

We were so excited to see how we could use this worldwide event to support our children’s learning.

The Olympics is a wonderful event to help tamariki learn so many valuable things and learning about what is happening in the world is beneficial for them. It helps them gain appreciation for others in our world, learning about diversity and other cultures, as well as friendship and fair play, as they also learn about the importance of teamwork skills.

We began with our opening ceremony which helped us look at where the games were being held and how countries have identification with flags and uniforms.

During our Kindy Olympic games, were able to develop their gross motor skills and fine motor skills too. They aspired to be winners, to go faster, to strive higher, and to be stronger in mind and body. Being excited by participating in the games, learning about the importance of practice, perseverance, and always aiming to do their best are the things that they could pick up on.

We also looked at medals, flags, the symbol of the olympic rings and significant landmarks.

So what did we learn?

Belonging/ mana whenua: Tamariki become increasingly capable of making connections between people places and things.
Exploration/mana Mana aotūroa - Moving confidently and challenging themselves physically.
Contribution/mana tangata - Learning a range of strategies and skills to play and learn with others.
